At the 31st General Assembly of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE), which was held on  November 2, 2011, in San Luis de Potosí, Mexico, Engineer Eduardo del Valle, Rector of Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (Argentina), was elected as Vice-President of the organization  for the period 2011-2013.

The Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (OUI-IOHE) was originally founded in 1979.  It is the only university organization  that spans the entire continent of the Americas. It is comprised  of more than 300 HE institutions  and inter-university associations, covering 26 countries.  Its members are loacted in 9  geographical regions: Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Brazil, the Andean countries, Colombia and the Southern Cone.

In a recent interview, the rector of PUCP university stressed that the core objective of the IOHE is to create a common academic area  for academic institutions from the Americas. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to link members by means of collaboration mechanisms and joint academic activities.
