EMULIES

Background

The Space of Women Leaders from Higher Education Institutions in the Americas (EMULIES) was created in 2011 within the framework of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE), as a space of reflection and exchange, formed by leaders of higher education institutions (HEIs).

Since its creation, EMULIES seeks to promote research, to improve skills through training, to promote cooperation and exchanges, as well as to promote the dissemination and the communication between women in positions of responsibility and decision-making in HEIs in the region.

EMULIES has begun to develop and strengthen itself, bringing together presidents, vice-presidents, deans, directors and other leaders to share their experiences and challenges related to gender, decision-making and access to power within HEIs. In order to continue to promote the leadership of women within HEIs, the EMULIES network has come to enhance the IOHE programs in 2016.

Currently, the OUI continues to promote female leadership in the HEIs of the Americas based on the following strategic objectives:

This mission revolves around the following strategic objectives:

  • To contribute to the strengthening of the leadership and participation of women in decision-making in higher education;
  • To promote the construction of HEIs that are more and more democratic, inclusive and socially responsible;
  • To provide rigorous information and updates on the status of women within HEIs; and
  • To influence higher education policies in favor of gender equality.
