The event attracted over\u00a0<strong>615 participants from 32 countries spanning 4 continents<\/strong>. Over\u00a0<strong>300 higher education institutions<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>40 national, regional and international university associations<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>governmental agencies\/authorities of 8 countries<\/strong>\u00a0were represented at the CAIE 2012. Participants included university presidents and vice-presidents, directors of international relations and academic mobility, scholars specializing in themes related to the internationalization of higher education, and representatives from governments, the private sector and national, regional and international university\/higher education organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The program highlights of the CAIE 2012 included an Inaugural Ceremony, with interventions by\u00a0<strong>Amaro Henrique Pessoa Lins<\/strong>, Secretary of Higher Education of the Brazilian Ministry of Education,\u00a0<strong>Roberto de Souza Salles<\/strong>, President of the Universidade Federal Fluminense, and\u00a0<strong>Marcia Rubio Correa<\/strong>, President of the Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica del Per\u00fa and President of the IOHE. The CAIE 2012 also had the privilege to welcome\u00a0<strong>His Excellency, the Right Honourable David Johnston<\/strong>, Governor General of Canada,\u00a0<strong>Alvaro Toubes Prata<\/strong>, National Secretary for Technological Development and Innovation of Brazil, and the late\u00a0<strong>Carlos Fuentes<\/strong>, internationally renowned Mexican writer and intellectual.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;20px&#8221;][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;2012 Program&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]The event offered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Plenary Debate on Internationalization and Mobility;<\/li>\n<li>A Plenary Interview on the Internationalization of Innovation, Science and Technology;<\/li>\n<li>21 workshops given by high-level representatives from HEIs and international organizations;<\/li>\n<li>50 concurrent sessions presented by 150 academics from the Americas and other regions;<\/li>\n<li>A networking event organized by the Association of Brazilian Higher Education Institutions\u2019 Offices for International Relations (FAUBAI);<\/li>\n<li>A delegation of 35 Canadian university presidents, led by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC);<\/li>\n<li>An exhibition space of higher education associations and institutions as well as sponsors of the CAIE-Brazil 2012;
