{"id":10719,"date":"2022-01-24T12:21:10","date_gmt":"2022-01-24T17:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/dia-internacional-de-la-educacion-2022\/"},"modified":"2022-01-24T12:51:44","modified_gmt":"2022-01-24T17:51:44","slug":"international-day-of-education-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/en\/international-day-of-education-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"International Day of Education 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201c<strong>Changing Course, Transforming Education<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/ga\/search\/view_doc.asp?symbol=A\/RES\/73\/25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-extlink=\"\">International Day of Education<\/a>, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>In\u00a0 these\u00a0 exceptional\u00a0 times,\u00a0 business\u00a0 as\u00a0 usual\u00a0 is\u00a0 no\u00a0 longer\u00a0 an\u00a0 option.\u00a0 If\u00a0 we\u00a0 are\u00a0 to\u00a0 transform the future, if we are to change course, we must rethink education.\u00a0 This means forging a new social contract for education, as called for by the UNESCO report\u00a0 on\u00a0 the\u00a0 Futures\u00a0 of\u00a0 Education,\u00a0 released\u00a0 last\u00a0 November.\u00a0 We\u00a0 need\u00a0 to\u00a0 repair\u00a0 past\u00a0 injustices and orient the digital transformation around inclusion and equity. And we need education\u00a0 to\u00a0 fully\u00a0 contribute\u00a0 to\u00a0 sustainable\u00a0 development\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 for\u00a0 instance,\u00a0 by integrating environmental education in all curricula and by training teachers in this field<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director General, on the occasion of International\u00a0Day of Education 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind.<\/p>\n<p>From the <strong>Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE) <\/strong>we propose the <strong>Virtual Mobility Space in Higher Education (<a href=\"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/en\/emovies\/\">eMOVIES<\/a>)<\/strong>\u00a0 as an initiative that is governed by the principles of collaboration and reciprocity and that does not imply any cost for the student who applies to the exchange.<\/p>\n<p>This consortium of Higher Education Institutions that are members of IOHE, offers the participating higher education institutions (HEIs) an alternative vision to the traditional mobility models for the promotion of academic exchange in higher education, allowing students the opportunity to study subjects in virtual or distance mode offered by other member institutions of IOHE.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cChanging Course, Transforming Education\u201d Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility.
