{"id":19233,"date":"2025-10-15T17:43:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T21:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/vii-encuentro-emulies-2025-mujeres-en-stem\/"},"modified":"2025-10-29T16:53:05","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T20:53:05","slug":"vii-emulies-2025-meet-women-in-stem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/en\/vii-emulies-2025-meet-women-in-stem\/","title":{"rendered":"VII EMULIES 2025 Meet: Women in STEM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The meeting was organized by the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE), in partnership with the Consejo Nacional de Rectores (CONARE).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The seventh edition of the Space of Women Leaders from Higher Education Institutions in the Americas (EMULIES) took place on October 13 and 14, within the framework of the Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAEI).<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Maritza Rond\u00f3n Rangel, President of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia and President of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE), gave a welcome and opening message to the VII EMULIES Meeting, in which she highlighted the role of women in higher education and their significant contributions to the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mar\u00eda Estrada S\u00e1nchez, President of the Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Costa Rica (TEC) and President of CONARE, the host institution of the event, officially opened the meeting and shared important figures.<\/p>\n<p>The table of honor also included Dr. David Julien, Executive director of the IOHE, who reaffirmed the Organization&#8217;s institutional commitment to the values of inclusion and expressed his gratitude to TEC\/CONARE for their immense support as hosts of the week of activities.<\/p>\n<p>The academic program of the VII Meeting began with remarks by Dr. Leticia Jim\u00e9nez, Academic Director of the OUI, who introduced the Inaugural Conference \u201cFrom Dream to Innovation: My Journey at NASA and Beyond\u201d by Dr. Sandra Cauffman, former Deputy Director of NASA&#8217;s Astrophysics Division.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19191 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-05.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-05-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-05-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-05-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cauffman shared her life story, recounting her childhood and youth, and told the audience how she managed to get into college and fulfill her dream of getting a job at NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. \u201cIt is important to pursue your dreams, listen, break down barriers between men and women, but above all, work as a team to achieve success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the second day of the meeting, the expert panel \u201cBreaking Barriers: Experiences of Women Leaders in STEM\u201d was held, presented by Doris Berm\u00fadez, Director of International Relations at the Universidad \u00c1rea Andina de Colombia, moderated by Dr. Fanta Aw, Director General and CEO, NAFSA, and with the following panelists: Dr. Mar\u00eda Estrada, President of the Tecnol\u00f3gico de Costa Rica; Dr. Kathy Baig, Director General, \u00c9cole de technologie sup\u00e9rieure (\u00c9TS), Canada; and Dr. Cecilia Paredes, Rector, Escuela Superior Polit\u00e9cnica del Litoral (ESPOL), Ecuador.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19195 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-08.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-08.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-08-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-08-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-08-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-08-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/EMULIES_2025-08-1536x1536.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>La agenda continu\u00f3 con el Taller sobre buenas pr\u00e1cticas en STEM, a cargo de Laura Queralt, coordinadora de la Oficina de Equidad de G\u00e9nero del TEC de Costa Rica y posteriormente se realiz\u00f3 el Panel de Discusi\u00f3n Mujeres y liderazgo, con la presentaci\u00f3n de la Dra. Karla Alejandra Esc\u00e1rcega, de la Universidad de Guanajuato, M\u00e9xico; la moderaci\u00f3n de la Dra. Leticia Jim\u00e9nez, Directora Acad\u00e9mica OUI, y las Panelistas: Dra. Daisy Carolina de G\u00f3mez, Rectora, Universidad Salvadore\u00f1a Alberto Masferrer,\u00a0 El Salvador, Dra. Jenifer Saffi, Reitora, UFCSPA, Brasil y la Dra. Lucie Laflamme, Directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, Universit\u00e9\u00a0T\u00c9LUQ, Canad\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Katalina Perera, Head of the Academic Division, OPES CONARE, presented the conclusions of the meeting, and Dr. Leticia Jim\u00e9nez closed the event.
