The Universidad de Los Lagos in Santiago, Chile, is hosting this event, which marks the culmination of an extensive process of coordination and collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries.<\/em><\/p>\n

Spearheaded by the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE) and Universities Canada, the mission has brought together more than 25 higher education institutions from Chile and Canada around a common goal: to strengthen international scientific cooperation, forge new strategic alliances, and promote joint initiatives in research, innovation, and advanced training.<\/p>\n

During this final stage, university officials, researchers, and institutional representatives will participate in bilateral meetings, thematic roundtables, and networking sessions aimed at identifying concrete opportunities for collaboration in key areas for sustainable development.<\/p>\n

The discussions, which began today, will address challenges and opportunities related to digital transformation and artificial intelligence, health and biomedicine, marine and polar ecosystems, sustainable mining, the energy transition, water management and climate change, as well as education, interculturalism, and territorial development.<\/p>\n

The in-person phase represents a unique opportunity to transform shared interests into concrete projects, strengthen international academic networks, and expand collaboration among universities, research centers, funding agencies, and stakeholders in the productive sector.<\/p>\n

The IOHE thus reaffirms its commitment to building bridges of cooperation that promote knowledge generation, innovation, and sustainable development in the Americas.<\/p>\n

During the opening ceremony, the Rector of the University of Los Lagos, \u00d3scar Garrido \u00c1lvarez, highlighted that this mission is the result of a relationship built over decades through the IOHE and close collaboration with the Canadian Embassy in Chile.<\/p>\n

Fernando Daniels, Director of Planning and Development at the IOHE, praised the realization of this initiative, which responds to Canadian universities\u2019 interest in expanding their academic presence in Latin America.<\/p>\n

For her part, Marisol Dur\u00e1n, PResident of the Universidad Tecnol\u00f3gica Metropolitana (UTEM) and President of the Consortium of State Universities of Chile (CUECH), highlighted the collaborative nature of an initiative that strengthens the internationalization of state universities and promotes joint responses to global challenges.<\/p>\n

Also participating in the inauguration was Eleanor Belshaw-Hauff, Political Advisor at the Canadian Embassy in Chile, who highlighted the 85 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and emphasized that Canada is currently the leading foreign investor in Chile.<\/p>\n
