{"id":2419,"date":"2016-06-28T17:00:28","date_gmt":"2016-06-28T21:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/conseil-regional-caraibe-leadership\/"},"modified":"2019-01-09T15:37:27","modified_gmt":"2019-01-09T20:37:27","slug":"caribbean-council-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oui-iohe.org\/en\/caribbean-council-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"New composition of the Caribbean Council, same continental leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Management positions of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE) in the Caribbean Region for the 2016-2018 period have been ratified in the framework of the Regional Assembly which took place on June 21<sup>st<\/sup> at the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unphu.edu.do\/\">Universidad Nacional Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(UNPHU) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the leaders who will take the reins of the region for the next two years are the re-elected Regional Vice-President, Architect Miguel Fiallo, President of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unphu.edu.do\/\">UNPHU<\/a>\u00a0(Dominican Republic) and the Deputy Regional Vice-President, Dr. Izelle Dubuisson Dorsainvil, President of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uqstegnetwork.org\/\">Universit\u00e9 Queensland<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Hait\u00ed). This is the second mandate of Architect Fiallo, who was at the head of the Region between 2014 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe re-election of Miguel Fiallo as Vice-President of the Caribbean reflects the unity of the region and it will deepen our common development strategies\u201d, said Dr. David Julien, Executive Director of the IOHE, who was present at the assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Architect Fiallo will also count on the support of six regional councilors, who represent all the corners of the Caribbean. The team members are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Corinne Mence Caster, President of the\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.univ-ag.fr\/\">Universit\u00e9 des Antilles et de la Guyane<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Guadeloupe);<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Barbara Reynolds, President of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uog.edu.gy\/\">University of Guyana<\/a>\u00a0(Guyana);<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Martha Mesa Valenciano,\u00a0 President of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uo.edu.cu\/\">Universidad de Oriente<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Cuba);<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Ana Cucurella-Adorno, President of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oui-iohe.org\/wp-admin\/www.caribbean.edu\">Caribbean University\u00a0<\/a>(Puerto Rico);<\/li>\n<li>Prof. Enrique Planchart, President of the\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usb.ve\/\">Universidad Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Venezuela);<\/li>\n<li>Prof. Sir Hilary Beckles, President of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwi.edu\/unica\">Association of Caribbean Universities and Research Institutes &#8211; UNICA<\/a>\u00a0and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West Indies\u00a0(Jamaica).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe are confident that the appointment of Professor Beckles as regional councillor will make closer ties with other Caribbean countries, especially those Anglophones. This way, a greater participation of this important bloc will be guaranteed\u201d, Dr. Julien added.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Caribbean Region count 54 institutions and associations in total, distributed in eight countries (Cuba, Guyana, French Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela).
