Arosemena Rom\u00e1n, Executive President, Ciudad del Saber Foundation (Panama); Paulo Selig, Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil); David Julien, Executive Secretary General of the IOHE (Canada) and Fernando Daniels, Executive Director COLAM.<\/p>\n<p>During the opening session, the participants highlighted the importance of teamwork and joint effort to carry out this remote version of the congress that undoubtedly marks a new phase for CiKi. They highlighted how this event is proof that it is possible to face difficulties and overcome them by finding new opportunities to generate knowledge in difficult times and break down borders.<\/p>\n<p>With the confidence in a future reunion, the Conference officially began which under the theme &#8220;Knowledge for business and social development&#8221; and for two days, will be the stage for discussion for more than 400 participants from 10 countries, on development of environments and ecosystems of innovation.<\/p>\n<p>The X International Conference of Knowledge and Innovation &#8211; CiKi has been promoted by the Postgraduate program in Engineering and Knowledge Management (EGC) of the Federal University of Santa Catarina &#8211; UFSC (Brazil), the Technological Scientific Park of the Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica do Rio Grande do Sul &#8211; TECNOPUC (Brazil), the Colegio de las Am\u00e9ricas &#8211; COLAM Program of the Inter-American University Organization &#8211; OUI (Canada) and the Ciudad del Saber Foundation &#8211; FCDS (Panama), in alliance with numerous higher education institutions and organizations committed to the development of innovation in the Americas.<\/p>\n<p>To know more about the International Conference of Knowledge and Innovation &#8211; ciKi visit<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/congresociki.org\/\">https:\/\/congresociki.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>INAUGURAL CONFERENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Candy Innovation Model: Managing the flow of Innovation<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The conference &#8220;Candy Innovation Model: Managing the flow of Innovation&#8221; was given by Doctor Josep Miquel Piqu\u00e9, President of Technova Barcelona &#8211; La Salle Innovation Park (Spain) and was moderated by Roberto Carlos dos Santos Pacheco, Program Coordinator Graduate Program in Engineering and Knowledge Management from the Federal University of Santa Catarina &#8211; EGC \/ UFSC (Brazil).<\/p>\n<p>In his presentation, Doctor Piqu\u00e9 shared with the participants the concepts that define this tool that allows any company or institution to organize innovation by managing challenges, stimulating ideas, developing prototypes and validating local and global scalability.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted the importance of recognizing the innovation of the &#8220;start-ups&#8221;, of the joint work and the articulated management of various agents such as government, industry and university, which by sharing a vision can develop scalable initiatives capable of solving new challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLENARY DEBATE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Innovation environments and the development of the knowledge economy and society<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>With the participation of:<\/p>\n<p>Jorge Nicol\u00e1s Audy, Superintendent of Innovation, Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica do Rio Grande do Sul &#8211; PUCRS (Brazil); Jorge Arosemena, Executive President, Ciudad del Saber Foundation (Panama) and Matthew Wettergreen, Director of the Global Medical Innovation program of the Master&#8217;s Degree in Bioengineering department, Rice University (United States) and the moderator of Jos\u00e9 Manuel Aguirre Guill\u00e9n, Director, Directorate of Technology Parks and Strategic Alliances, Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey (Mexico).<\/p>\n<p>In this session, each of the guests presented an innovation environment of their region or institution, shared the successful experiences and achievements, recognized those fundamental actors in said experiences, as well as their main contributions and significant actions in the achievement and evolution of the different environments.<\/p>\n<p>They talked about the anecdotes and those mistakes and even failures that have served as great lessons and learnings and that allowed them to improve innovation ecosystems. They shared their recommendations and suggestions for those regions that do not have as many resources in developing innovation environments.<\/p>\n<p>The main conclusions of this participatory exercise are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The success of these projects comes from the culture. From the culture of creating, from the culture of collaboration and innovation. From the community culture that is reflected in an educational process of vision.
