This strategic meeting, which will boost scientific collaboration between the two countries, was jointly organised by the Inter-University Institute for Educational Research, the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE) and Universities Canada.

The Universidad de Concepción hosted the ‘Academic Mission to Promote Scientific Cooperation between Canada and Chile’, an event that brought together representatives from universities, research centres and international organisations with the aim of strengthening scientific collaboration between the two countries.

The main objective of this mission is to strengthen bilateral ties by establishing lasting strategic partnerships. The programme focuses on promoting joint research projects, fostering academic mobility for students and staff, and exploring new co-funding opportunities in priority areas of knowledge for both countries, such as sustainable mining, artificial intelligence and the energy transition.

The significance of this mission is reflected in its high turnout, bringing together delegations from 14 Canadian and 19 Chilean universities for strategic regional visits that consolidate this bilateral scientific cooperation.

As part of the meeting’s agenda, Fernando Daniels, Director, Planning and Development at the IOHE, met with the Vice-Chancellor of the Universidad de Concepción, Jacqueline Sepúlveda Carreño, and the Director of International Relations, Sofía Valenzuela Aguila, thereby reinforcing the commitment of both institutions to collaborate in their respective areas of interest.
