March 1, 2016. Victoria – The Royal Roads University Board of Governors is pleased to announce an 18-month extension to Dr. Allan Cahoon’s second term as President and Vice-Chancellor.

Royal Roads Chancellor and Board of Governors Chair Wayne Strandlund says the extension of Cahoon’s term provides an opportunity for successful transitions and succession planning with the arrival of new board members in the coming year.

“Newly appointed board members will benefit greatly from Allan’s deep institutional knowledge and vision,” says Strandlund. “I am excited to continue working with him as Royal Roads continues to meet the labour market needs of this province and country, while changing the lives of its students by building leadership capacity.”

Effective July 1, 2017, Cahoon’s extension will also offer leadership stability and consistency as Royal Roads embarks on a new five-year operations plan. Cahoon will continue to focus on his priorities of promoting Royal Roads’ demand-driven program offerings, as well as advocating for the construction of a new building on campus to meet its student growth projections. The extension will also allow him to complete his term as president of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education.

Originally appointed in 2007, Cahoon was re-appointed in 2012 for a second five-year term. At the conclusion of his extended term in December 2018, Cahoon will have been the longest serving president in the Research Universities’ Council of B.C. with almost 12 years at the helm of Royal Roads.
