Montreal, Canada, 05/11/2017 – The headquarters of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE)’s CAMPUS program is currently situated at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma -BUAP (Mexico) where it will remain for the next five years under the direction of Dr. Rosa Montes, a recognized academic at the continental level.
This decision was approved during the 76th annual board meeting and ratified on November 25th 2016 during the 36th General Assembly for members of the organization, and entered into force upon the signature of a bilateral agreement.
“The rich history of BUAP, during which it has demonstrated its commitment towards the comprehensive education of its citizens, critical and capable of reflection, through three cycles of higher education, makes this institution ideal for hosting CAMPUS”, declared secretary general of IOHE, Dr. David Julien.
From 2008 to 2016, the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) (Ecuador) was headquarters for the program and was distinguished by its innovative projects. This institution, in turn, provided its invaluable support to the process of transition and continues to collaborate with CAMPUS as part of the program’s Governing Board by offering its academic support in various lines of action, notably DOC-CAMPUS and the Chair Laudato Si’
According to the organizational scheme of IOHE’s other programs (the College of the Americas – COLAM, the Institute for University Management and Leadership – IGLU, and the Space for Women Leaders from Higher Education Institutions in the Americas – EMULIES), CAMPUS relies on a Board of Governors composed of representatives from institutions across IOHE’s various regions:
- Dr. Raúl Arias, Academic Secretary, Universidad de Guanajuato (UGto), Mexico
- Dr. José Barbosa, President, UTPL, Ecuador
- Dr. Ariel Cuadro, Academic Vice-President, Universidad Católica del Uruguay
- Dr. Nora Nagels, Professor of Political Science, Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM), Canada
