As part of the launch of the Strategic Sustainability Management course, the conference “Universities That Transform: Higher Education and the SDGs” was held, led by Dr. Victoria Galán-Muros, CEO of the Innovative Futures Institute.
The event provided a space to reflect on the strategic role of universities in building a sustainable future. Emphasis was placed on the importance of integrating sustainability into teaching, research, and university management; the impact that institutions can have on their communities; and the fact that universities do not merely transmit knowledge: they have the power to transform societies.
The session was opened by Dr. Leticia Jiménez, Academic Director of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE), who provided context on the strategic importance of the SDGs for the IOHE. She also welcomed the course participants, including administrators, coordinators, and vice-rectors from various higher education institutions, as well as representatives from Argentina, Peru, Chile, Mexico, El Salvador, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Colombia, Bolivia, and the Dominican Republic.
