Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 18 2018 – Brazil was the center of the worldwide university community this week, by hosting two major events that IOHE could not miss.

FAUBAI 2018: Significant IOHE Presence

Organized by the Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI), this year’s FAUBAI Conference was held on April 14 to 18 on the theme of “Internationalization at Research: Challenges and Strategies”. During this event the Regional Assembly for IOHE-Brazil was also held.

Bringing together 700 individuals from all backgrounds, this major conference has been a unique opportunity to meet actors in the academic community and to share knowledge and best practices in a constantly evolving world. Discussions at this year’s conference were concentrated on the implementation of global strategies for internationalization and, more particularly, on the development of Brazilian research.

IOHE’s new Regional Council for Brazil

“Also as Chair the Council of Brazilian University Presidents (CRUB), we believe in the unifying effect of this new Regional Council to increase the regional membership and the effectiveness of our actions,” said the new Regional Vice-President Dr. Aguiar Neto.

This meeting was also an occasion to work on the regional Annual Plan of Activities based on IOHE’s Strategic Plan for 2017-2022. The major lines of action for 2018-2020 to support IOHE’s global strategy were also outlined during the gathering. The proposals of the counsellors and the regional members responded to needs and priorities specific to the region. “The inclusion in the New Regional Council of great universities characterized by excellence in their research alongside emerging institutions in cutting-edge sectors will allow us to meet the needs of all our members who view Brazil as a potential country for forming partnerships,” added Dr. David Julien, Executive Director of IOHE.
