IGLU Higher Council (2017-2018)

The Higher Council of the Institute for University Management and Leadership (IGLU), of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE) for the period 2017-2018 will be composed of the following high authorities of higher education institutions:

  • Brazil, Luciano Marcelino, Vice-President of Institutional Developement, Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina (UNISUL);
  • Colombia, Clara Inés García, Coordinator, IGLU Colombia Headquarters, Universidad del Rosario;
  • El Salvador, Judith Mendoza, President, Universidad Modular Abierta (UMA);
  • México, Silvia Álvarez, Ex-President, Universidad de Guanajuato;
  • Puerto Rico, Agustín Echavarría, Vice- President of Academic Affairs, Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico (INTER).

During its first virtual meeting, the Higher Council of the IGLU appointed its leadership; thus, Dr. Agustín Echevarría, of the INTER, will occupy the Presidency and Dr. Judith Mendoza, of the UMA, the Vice-Presidency.

The respective Executive Directors of the IOHE and the IGLU, Dr. David Julien and Dr. Miguel Escala, expressed their satisfaction about the new composition and thanked the outgoing President, Dr. Silvia Álvarez, of the Universidad de Guanajuato (Mexico), for her commitment and leadership during all these years of service.

“We are confident that the members of this new Council will encourage the growth of the IGLU and promote the continuity of its activities which are at the forefront of higher education in the continent,” said Dr. Escala.

The Superior Council responsibilities include the adoption of guidelines and working orientations, as well as the mechanisms of evaluation of the IGLU program, in accordance with its strategic objectives, in order to ensure the same quality, the implementation of action axes, the approval of development plans, budget, annual report of activities, the internal regulation and propose to the Board of Directors reforms that it deems appropriate for the regulation of the program.

The IGLU organizes dozens of events every year, such as the IGLU Course in seven host institutions, Specialized Courses, Seminars, Internships, among others, where hundreds of participants from all over the continent exchange experiences and strengthen institutional ties. The four IOHE programs: CAMPUS, the College of the Americas – COLAM, IGLU and the Space for Women Leaders from Higher Education Institutions in the Americas (EMULIES) dispose of a well-defined governance structure that ensures its proper functioning.
