The Institute for University Management and Leadership (IGLU) of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE) hosted, from April 4th to 8th, 2016, the IGLU Internship, 2015 Group in British Colombia, Canada thanks to the collaboration of host institution, , Royal Roads University (RRU), and the support of the University of Victoria (UVIC) and Vancouver Island University (VIU).
The presence of senior management of the RRU was crucial for the success of this internship, in particular, that of the President, Dr. Allan Cahoon, who is also the President of the IOHE and Vice-President of the Region of Canada; Vice-President of Global Progress, Commercialization, and Business Development and Executive Regional Secretary (SER IOHE) of the Region of Canada, Dr. Pedro Márquez; as well as the director of the Masters in Educational Leadership, Dr. Doug Hamilton. In this context, Dr. Cahoon gave a warm welcome to the internship participants while Dr. Márquez and Dr. Hamilton gave lectures during which they shared their vast experience around higher education management and the RRU model.
At UVIC, the group was received by Sarah Blackstone, Advisor and Assistant to the Chancellor for Special Projects. The internship participants visited various key sectors of the institution, such as the First Nations House and the research centers which conduct projects whose object of study focuses on the Americas. Finally, the participants met with academics interested by this particular region.
On the other hand, at the VIU, the group was received and congratulated by Dr. Ralph Nilson, the Dean of International Education, Dr. Graham Pike, as well as Dr. Steve Lane, Associate Vice President of Academic Planning and Aboriginal Initiatives, which exhibited the structure, programs, vision, and mission of the VIU.
The IGLU Internship finished with a ceremony conducted by Dr. Cahoon, who personally handed the diplomas to each participant, before delivering a moving closing speech.
