The IOHE’s Executive Director, Dr. David Julien, participated in the event Global Dialogue II (GDII), held at the premises of the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa (UAS) from January 16th to 18th, 2017, in Mazatlán, Mexico, and organized by the Asociación Mexicana para la Educación Internacional (AMPEI).

GDII brought together about 20 of the most important higher education associations on the planet, including, among others, the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), the International Institute of Education (IIE), and the Association of International Educators (NAFSA), from the United States; the European Association for International Education (EAIE) from Europe; the International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA), from Africa; the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA), from Oceania; as well as the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), the Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI), the International Cooperation of the National Universities (RedCIUN), and the Unión de Universidades de América Latina y el Caribe (UDUAL), from the rest of the American continent.

This space stimulated the conversation on common issues as well as the challenges that higher education is facing at an international level. These debates placed particular emphasis on the internationalization of the related theme, public policies and regulatory environments, demography and academic mobility, access and diversity, as well as sustainable development objectives and their intersection with higher education. The presence of various associations was propitious to carry out a parallel session of the Network of International Education Associations (NIEA) in which the IOHE is participating for the second time.

“The GDII was an excellent opportunity to strengthen ties with colleagues from all over the world, and consequently, enrich the vision and scope of the IOHE. We also look forward to a continental participation in the Fifth Edition of the Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE), to be held in October in Montreal, Canada, in order to create linking opportunities with our members of the Americas”, said Dr. Julien.

With this activity, Dr. Julien started the year 2017 with this activity, during which important meetings will be held at the continental and global levels, the future of higher education in the continent will be outlined, and the CAIE organized by the IOHE will be delineated.
