The Regional Assembly Central America of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE) and the Mission “New Collaborations for Innovation: Doctoral Studies and Research”, from Brazil to Central America, were held between July 26th and 28th, 2016, in Costa Rica.

The Executive Director of the IOHE, Dr. David Julien, participated in both events, thanks to the organization of the regional Vice-Presidency headquarter, the Universidad Técnica Nacional (UTN), and its president, the BA Marcelo Prieto Jiménez.

The Assembly gathered 12 institutions represented by high authorities, such as Presidents and Vice-Presidents. The region counts 22 members coming from five countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua); it is a strategic zone that has an expansion of paramount importance for the IOHE, said the Executive Director of the IOHE, during the event.

“The participation and the enthusiasm of the Central American institutions are vital for the IOHE. It is always a pleasure to experience the dynamism witnessed here in the field of Higher Education”, highlighted Dr. Julien.

On the other hand, the Mission “New Collaborations for Innovation: Doctoral Studies and Research”, an IOHE initiative, through its CAMPUS program, was possible with the coordination of the UTN (Costa Rica) and the Universidad Federal Fluminense – UFF (Brazil). Twenty five participants were also attending.

Thanks to its Inter-American character, this mission contributed to establishing and expanding the collaboration between two high-level universities that are developing academic projects with other institutions in the continent, through creating a common space and planning joint actions.

“It’s a great opportunity that the IOHE, through its CAMPUS program, gets together the efforts of quality graduate studies from Brazil that contribute to institutional development of higher education institutions in Central America”, said Dr. Raul Arias, Executive Director of the CAMPUS program.

“At the end of this mission, there will be concrete results of which we feel proud; we will continue to work in the future. This exercise we do today with Brazil, we want to eventually retake it with Canada, Chile, among others”, he added.

The IOHE organizes almost a hundred events yearly, among which: Doctoral Missions, Seminars, Courses, and Assemblies. Please check the Plan of Activities 2016 in order to keep abreast of our agenda.
