Prioritizing the topics of Innovation, Leadership in a Changing World, Equity and Social Justice, the President of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE), and Royal Roads University (Canada), Dr. Allan Cahoon, participated in the 99th annual Conference of the American Council on Education (ACE2017), the largest association of higher education institutions in the United States.

“IOHE presence at ACE2017 enabled us to strengthen ties with US higher education institutions,” said Dr. Cahoon, taking into account that, in each edition, the event receives approximately 2 000 leaders of higher education in the United States and other countries including Canada and several Latin American countries.

“The fact that the event was held in Washington, DC within the context of a new government, made us aware of the concerns and expectations of our neighbours, as well as their desire to consolidate relationships with Latin American institutions members of IOHE” he added.

While ACE has been the collective voice for American higher education for nearly a century, this year’s plenary sessions were focusing on Higher Education Leadership; Equity and Social Justice; Leadership in a Changing World; and Innovation. These themes are also subscribed to the axes of the 2017-2022 IOHE Strategic Plan: Social Commitment, Innovation and Internationalisation; Sustainable Development; Organizational Management and Leadership.

IOHE brings together more than 350 institutions of higher education in the Americas. The US membership has grown exponentially in the past year, as well as the agenda of events held in this country where the IOHE has been represented by its senior officials.
