IOHE held the LXXXVIII meeting of the Board of Directors and the XLII General Ordinary Assembly of Members, at the University of Guanajuato, seat of the Vice-presidency IOHE-Mexico.

After two years of the pandemic during which contact was impossible, these meetings were carried out, which we consider essential to strengthen our institutional ties.

 

On the 3rd and 4th of November, IOHE held the LXXXVIII meeting of the Board of Directors and its XLII General Ordinary Assembly of Members, in person, at the University of Guanajuato, current headquarters of the Regional Vice-Presidency OUI-Mexico.

The Board of Directors counted with the participation of the President of IOHE Oscar Garrido, Dean of the University of Los Lagos in Chile, of the Treasurer of the Organization Valérie Amiraux, Vice-Rector of Asociaciones Comunitarias e Internacionales, Université de Montréal, Canada and of the Vice-Presidents regional (Central America, Caribbean, Colombia, Cono Sur, Canada, United States, Mexico and Andean countries).

The members of the Board of Directors renewed their commitment to continue working for the betterment of higher education in their regions and consolidated the work plan for the year that viene, which will be the route of management in 2023 and which will integrate the labor of las vice-presidencies and the General Executive Secretariat.

On November 4, the General Assembly of Members took place with the participation of 120 representatives from 14 countries gathered in Guanajuato, combined with the virtual participation of another 180 delegates. The Assembly approved the new Strategic Plan 2023-2030, ratified four Regional Vice-presidencies, approved the admission of new members of IOHE and approved the reports of the President, the General Executive Secretary, the Electoral Commission and the Treasury.

The Honorary President of the IOU Juan Carlos Romero Hicks makes a recognition of the work of the Outstanding Fiscal of IOHE Clara Hutt in Costa Rica, after 40 years of faithful services to the Organization. Concluding the Assembly, the award of the Gilles Boulet Award was awarded, recognizing the best innovative project of the course of the Institute in Management and Leadership (IGLU) of the OUI. Quality, from the Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Maestra of the Dominican Republic.

Thanks to the collaboration of Santander-Universia, the General Assembly was preceded by the masterful conference on the development of the culture of peace and equity in higher education, led by Dr. Esther Giménez Salinas, former Dean of the Ramón Llull University of Spain and international expert on human rights and the culture of peace in higher education. At this time, a roundtable discussion on National Strategies for International Education was held, with the participation of panelists Maritza Rondón, Rector of the Cooperative University of Colombia and IOHE Vice-President, Shauna Hemingway, Deputy Ambassador of Canada in Mexico , Federico Zaragoza, Dean of the College of Southern Nevada and IOHE USA-Vice-President Region and Cesar Eduardo Jurado, President of the Mexican Association for International Education (AMPEI), with the moderation of David Julien, General Executive Secretary, OUI-IOHE and Executive Director of the CAEI.

In the framework of the event, the sign of an Academic Collaboration Agreement was held between the University of Los Lagos, Chile and the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, by its rectors, Óscar Garrido and Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino.

Finally, Doctor Maritza Rondón Rangel, Dean of the Cooperativa Universidad de Colombia and IOHE Vice-President , presented a special recognition to the IOHE for its fourteen years of service to the academic community of the Americas.

Asímismo, the leader of the Host Committee of CAEI-2023 Dr. Federico Zaragoza announces the official launch of the Call for the event to be held in Las Vegas Nevada, United States from the 6th to the 8th of November 2023 and whose central theme will be “The Future is Now”. General Assembly, the Universidad de Guanajuato, offered a cocktail and a cultural activity for the present delegates .
