COIL-eMOVIES Program

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is an educational approach that enables faculty from different institutions and countries to collaboratively design intercultural and interdisciplinary learning experiences. Through this model, instructors develop a joint syllabus and engage their students in collaborative projects, fostering meaningful intercultural exchange.

What is the COIL-eMOVIES Program?

COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) is an educational approach that brings together faculty from different institutions and countries to co-design interactive, intercultural learning experiences. In this model, instructors co-develop a shared syllabus and engage their students in collaborative projects, fostering meaningful intercultural exchange through the eMOVIES platform.

The eMOVIES platform is a hub where educators can find COIL courses, connect with academic peers, and build the skills needed to design, plan, and implement COIL-based learning experiences.

The program aims to integrate collaborative methodologies into teaching practice, thereby internationalizing the curriculum and enriching the educational experience through online collaboration among faculty from diverse disciplines and countries

How to participate in COIL-eMOVIES?

Faculty members interested in joining the program must register on the eMOVIES platform and publish the course they wish to use for a COIL collaboration. This allows them to connect with colleagues abroad who are also seeking partners.

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) must also be registered on the platform. Please note that eMOVIES is a complimentary service provided by IOHE to its member institutions.

How to find academic peers for collaboration?

The eMOVIES platform helps faculty find and connect with international colleagues who are also interested in developing COIL experiences. They can search for potential partners using filters like institution, country, academic discipline, and language.

To initiate a collaboration, instructors simply complete a form with their personal and course information. This enables them to connect with other educators and begin co-developing a joint syllabus.
