CAIE CHILE- 2021

Introduction

The seventh edition of the Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) took place from October 19-22, 2021 in virtual mode. Its main theme was ‘Charting the Future: Strengthening the Global Knowledge Community’.

During this edition, more than 80 sessions and activities were held with Chilean associations, international delegations, and corporate partners, enriching the experience of the 1,120 participants who, through our virtual platform, were able to make contact with different organizations and international education professionals from all over the world.

Speakers like Jeffrey Sachs – Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Promoter of the SDGs for the United Nations, Juan Eduardo Vargas – Deputy Secretary for Higher Education of Chile, Federico Zaragoza –President, College of southern Nevada (CSN) & Vicepresident, USA Region OUI-IOHE, among others, enriched the academic program and made the agenda of CAEI Chile-2021 an opportunity for discussion and exchange of knowledge in the company of the 215 speakers who attended this edition.

Charting the Future of Higher Education: Perspectives from International & Multilateral Organizations

This plenary session brings a panel of leaders from world-class research institutions, from 3 different countries in the Americas, to share their perspective on the most important challenges facing higher education today and their vision on how their institutions build upon their research and academic activities to motivate transnational collaborations and partnerships to address the most pressing challenges of our time.

Education for Sustainable Development: Engaging Higher Education

Our global community faces urgent challenges that condition and may compromise our future. Solutions have been identified but their successful implementation undoubtedly relies on the active involvement of higher education institutions. Building a global community of knowledge would provide us with a platform from which to facilitate exchanges and articulate shared solutions to our greatest challenges. In this session we will learn how highly engaged institutions have adopted the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and are working within their communities to promote development and guarantee long-term sustainability.

Diversity. Inclusion. Equity. A new compact for higher education.

During this Panel, leaders from different regions of the continent will address the urgency and importance of transforming social structures and educational systems that affect vulnerable and disadvantaged populations to secure an inclusive and equitable access to higher education. Members of this panel will draw from their own institutional programs and initiatives to provide evidence of the ways in which higher-education institutions, governments and society at large can articulate inclusive and participatory solutions to our most pressing social challenges.

During this Panel representatives from different regions of the continent, leaders in the technical and professional training sectors, will shed light on the ways that their organizations and the institutions they represent are responding to the changing demands of the workplace and adapting to offer pertinent training and educational experiences. Special attention will be given to those collaborative initiatives resulting in meaningful, broad-based partnerships.

The evolving landscape of international education: A global conversation.

During this round table, representatives from international education associations from different corners of the world, will update participants on how different countries and regions of the world see the evolving landscape of international education and are in consequence adapting their institutional, national and regional internationalization strategies.

The Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) offers a series of webinars in each edition and invites the entire higher education community and representatives from the public, private and civil society sectors, to participate in various conversations on innovation and internationalization of higher education.

CAEI CHILE 2021 KICK-OFF WEBINAR

The Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) launches its 2021 Webinar series to kick off discussions and animate conversations toward this year’s (virtual) meeting.

We invite the different actors, leaders, and professionals involved in the internationalization of higher education in the Americas and the world, to participate in CAEI Chile-2021 and together “Charting the Future”.

This first webinar included the participation of the Ministry of Education and the President of the National Committee as hosts of CAEI Chile-2021, and the launch of the event by the directors of CAEI 2021.

Theme: The Future of Work: Perspectives for Technical and Vocational Training

During this session, the panelists will present the current situation and the process of evolution that the work environment and the nature of work are undergoing. In the conversation, they will address the effects of this process on technical and professional training and some of the actions being implemented to respond and adapt to these changes. Undoubtedly it is a discussion that we will be taking up again during the virtual CAEI in October.

THEME: Covid-19 and higher education: analyzing challenges and maximizing opportunities.

 

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions in all aspects of our lives. In higher education in particular, it generated new challenges, but also exposed and highlighted existing ones. At the same time, it has emphasized the importance of higher education and highlighted the value of academic and scientific collaboration at the global level.

 

Based on the preliminary results of two surveys conducted by IAU and IAUP on the impact of Covid-19 on higher education worldwide, distinguished speakers from 4 different continents will describe some of the main challenges and discuss ways to overcome and maximize the opportunities created by the pandemic.
